Split a paycheck
This is the whole app in ten seconds. Sprig opens on the Split tab.
- Type what you got paid into How much did you get paid?
- The four buckets fill in as you type — no button to press.
- Tap Save this paycheck to keep it in your history (this is what powers Grow).
The math runs in whole cents, and the essentials bucket absorbs any rounding remainder — so the four amounts always add up to exactly what you were paid, never a penny off.
Choosing a rule
Sprig's default is 20 / 10 / 60 / 10, but you're not stuck with it. Open Settings (top right) and pick the rule you want to live on:
| Rule | Buckets | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 20 / 10 / 60 / 10 Sprig, the default | Growth 20 · Stability 10 · Essentials 60 · Enjoyment 10 | Building wealth while keeping a cushion and guilt-free spending |
| 50 / 30 / 20 | Needs 50 · Wants 30 · Savings 20 | The classic, if you like a simpler three-way split |
| 70 / 20 / 10 | Living 70 · Saving 20 · Giving 10 | Tighter budgets, or when giving (or debt paydown) is its own priority |
Switching rules re-labels and re-colors everything — the Split, Grow, and Fit tabs all follow the rule you chose. Nothing you've saved is lost.
Grow — what the saving becomes
The Grow tab takes the average of your saved paychecks, sets aside your rule's growth buckets every payday, and compounds it forward.
- Save a few paychecks first — Grow needs history to average.
- Set how often you're paid (weekly, biweekly, twice monthly, monthly).
- Drag the timeline to see any horizon — a couple of years out, or decades.
- Open Adjust to set the interest rates yourself: a plain savings rate and a high-yield rate.
Fit — does 60% actually cover your life?
The honest gut-check. Your rule budgets a percentage for essentials; the Fit tab asks whether your real bills fit inside it.
- Enter your income and how often you're paid.
- Fill in your real monthly essentials — rent/mortgage, food & groceries, transportation, utilities, insurance.
- Add anything else with Add a bill; your entries are remembered.
- Sprig totals them and tells you plainly whether they fit — and if not, by how much.
When they don't fit, you get the two real levers — earn a bit more, or trim — and a number for each. Sprig never tells you which coffee to cancel.
History
- Every paycheck you save lands in History, newest first, with its split.
- Tap an entry to see that paycheck's full breakdown.
- Swipe to delete one you don't want counted.
Removing ads
Sprig is free and shows one banner. A single purchase removes it permanently — there's no subscription, and no feature is ever locked behind it.
- Open Settings → Remove Ads and confirm with Apple.
- The banner disappears immediately and no further ad requests are made.
- On a new iPhone, tap Restore Purchases with the same Apple Account.
On first launch iOS asks whether Sprig may track you. Declining is completely fine — you'll still see a banner, just not a personalized one. You can change your mind in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Troubleshooting
- Grow looks empty or flat — it needs saved paychecks to average. Save a few on the Split tab first.
- The buckets don't look like 20/10/60/10 — check Settings; you may be on the 50/30/20 or 70/20/10 rule.
- Ads came back — reinstalls don't carry the purchase automatically. Settings → Restore Purchases.
- Wrong currency symbol — Sprig follows your iPhone's region, in iOS Settings → General → Language & Region.
- My split is off by a penny — it shouldn't be; the remainder always goes to essentials. If you see otherwise, please send us the numbers.
