Write your first note
- Open SlapNote and tap the + button in the middle of the tab bar.
- Type — the keyboard is up and ready. Notes save automatically as you write.
- Your notes appear as sticky cards on a grid. Tap any card to edit it.
Put a note on your Home Screen
This is the whole point of SlapNote — your note lives among your app icons.
- Write at least one note.
- Go to your Home Screen and long-press on empty space.
- Tap Edit (top left) → Add Widget.
- Search SlapNote, choose the small or medium widget, and tap Add Widget.
💡 The widget shows your most recently edited note automatically and updates within seconds of a save. Tapping it opens that note in the editor.
Pin a widget to one note
- Long-press the widget on your Home Screen.
- Tap Edit Widget.
- Pick the note it should always show.
💡 Add as many widgets as you like — a pinned grocery list, a pinned reminder, and one that follows your latest note. Each widget is independent.
Organize with folders
- On the Notes grid, use the folder chips at the top to create a folder.
- Long-press a note to move it into a folder.
- Tap a chip to see just that folder; delete a folder from the same row.
Fonts, colors, and formatting
- Colors — six classic sticky shades (yellow, pink, blue, green, orange, purple) or any custom color from the color picker.
- Fonts — six to choose from, clean to handwritten, per note.
- Formatting — the editor toolbar does bold, italic, headings, bullets, and links.
💡 Dark mode is intentional — sticky colors adjust rather than invert, so your notes stay readable day and night.
Build a mood board
- Open the Boards tab and create a named board.
- Place things: notes, free text labels (any font and color), emoji, and stickers from the built-in 19-piece pack.
- Arrange: drag to move, pinch to resize, twist to rotate.
- Draw with the pencil tool — finger or Apple Pencil — and erase with the eraser.
- Everything saves to the board automatically; boards browse as a card gallery, just like notes.
The tip jar
SlapNote is free, no catch. If it's useful, Settings has a tip jar with three amounts. Nothing unlocks — it's a tip, and the app says so. Tips are processed by Apple.
Troubleshooting
- Widget shows the wrong note — it follows your latest edit unless pinned. Long-press → Edit Widget to pin it.
- Widget isn't updating — open the note and make a small edit; widgets refresh within seconds of a save. If it still lags, remove and re-add the widget.
- Can't find the widget in the list — open SlapNote once first, and make sure you have at least one note.
- Notes aren't on my other device — notes are per-device in V1; iCloud sync is on the roadmap.
